Today was a very busy and long day.
We were at the borghese gallery first thing waiting before it opened. It was amazing. I really like Persephone and Pluto. It was amazing. The second Bernini statue I really liked was Daphne.
From there we went to the Spanish Steps. They were great. But they really do have police officers telling people not to sit down. I do think this really takes away from the ambience and relaxing nature of the stairs.
From there we grabbed lunch and then went to the Trevi Fountain. They have closed a number of the steps down to view the fountain. This made the crowd a s*** show. I actually looked at Trapper and just said this is no fun at all I’m sorry.
At that point we separated for the afternoon. Trapper went for a break at the apartment. I went and saw the Pope’s tailor. I got bishop and cardinal socks.
I then went to the Capitoline museum. Unfortunately the good side was not open due to a strike so I decided not to go in.
From there I went up the tomb of the unknown soldier monument. It was
Built by Mussolini so it was huge and clearly fascist. Even found a large swastika in it.
Anyway from there I returned to join Trapper’s siestas. We had supper.
Then it was off to our 7pm entry to the Vatican Museums. Seeing them at night was amazing for two reasons. The less light made them more moody or atmospheric. But also there were so few people. There were likely 6 people in the Raphaël rooms with us. And we were able to sit in the Sistine chapel. And we did for the better part of an hour. It was very amazing.
Anyway it’s now 11pm and we are exhausted so I better stop here.
Tomorrow we see saint peter himself.
