We made it to Rome. We arrived at lunch time and did a tour of St. Peter’s basilica with a seminarian from Green Bay, Wisconsin.
It was a great tour that focused more on the historic-religious aspects of the cathedral. It was unlike any tour of the Vatican I have had before. Loved it. It was free and there was only four people on it.
They have moved St. John Paul the second up into the main part of the church which is nice. Also it was much less full then I’m used to so I got a much better cues of some things. The Pieta being one thing in particular.
I was struck in particular that more strictly tourists were there than I remember in the past but anyway.
As we left it started raining so we decided to forego our walk home and take the metro.
Tomorrow could be a rough day as a strike is scheduled for all transit garbage collection. And possibly some museums so we will do lots of walking tomorrow and possibly do some reorganization.
