Today we had an early start 815am at the academia. We saw David. I have to admit I was underwhelmed. He is very large but he is not well proportioned and his head is not well formed if you asked me. I did like the prisoners, also by Michelangelo. They really do look like they are breaking out of the marble.
By the time 845 rolled around it was starting to get too crowded for our tastes and we took our leave. We checked out the basilica of the annunciation. We walked in on mass so we just sat through it.
We then went to museum of saint mark. This was an old Dominican monestary that framgelico did numerous frescos in. It was paid for by cosimo Medici so he also kept a cell there. And strangely enough it was also headquarters for the monk that had a temporary theocracy in Florence.
From there we walked over to the market and got a snack including a cannoli. I loved it, trapper did not. Now I know if I come upon any loose cannoli I need to be careful. She might try to trap me again.
From there we went to the Medici burial chapel. It was very cool with a lot of very dark colours of stone marble. It was Dark green purple etc.
From there we went to the basilica San Lorenzo which was huge but fairly plain. And the Medici library which is pretty standard for an ancient library. Beautiful but nothing amazing.
Then we decided to do what married couples do ... head home early to make a great supper and cuddle while watching tv.
It was a great supper with a couple different prepared pastas from the grocery store. A Chianti steak from the market. A bottle of Chianti wine and some vegetable. And there is now plenty of other food and drink in our fridge for the rest of our stay in Florence.
Anyways, I think it’s time to head back for more tv and snuggles as it will be another early morning to the Uffizi gallery tomorrow.
