So yesterday we saw lots of things but I think slowed down a bit. The sights were also less crowded.
We decided to do rick Steves historic Paris walking audio tour. We started by seeing notre dame. We went inside and I was really struck by the dim lighting. I felt like for the first time I was seeing a cathedral like a person of the Middle Ages would. It took several minutes for my eyes to adjust. I couldn’t believe the detail in the stained glass.
Next we walk around the outside and took in several great views of the church. We eventually stopped and had coffee at Shakespeare and company with a great view of the cathedral. Then I went book shopping.
We then walked around the left bank. Saw the cluny medieval museum (not that impressive) and had lunch before heading back to the island where notre dame is.
We then went into the saint Chappell church. It was built to house the crown of thorns. I have never seen as much as vibrant or as beautiful stained glass. It was a normal size church but the height and all the glass and light was amazing. It was the unexpected gem of the trip. Also was another chance to skip a huge line with our museum pass.
Next we went to the concegerie. The prison and torture palace of the revolution. It was good and large.
After that we finished walking around the island before hopping a metro to the galleries Lafayette. Basically the harrods of Paris. Trapper got a computer bag she is pretty excited about.
Anyway we then turned in early as this morning we are on the train to Versailles. We hop to arrive before the hoards.
