So we are alive and made it to France. We were just a bit too tired to post last night.
We made it to Halifax in good time. So good in fact we had enough time to stop at the masstown market for flight snacks and the big stop for supper.
We arrived at Charles de Gaul airport Paris and got ourselves a car without too much difficulty. We had booked an auto transmission compact car but they ended up giving us a VW Tiguan. So that’s an excellent start to our trip.
We then made our way to vimy. We checked out the visitor centre and the restored trenches and dug outs. It was pretty cool to see.
Then we headed up to the memorial. It was quite large. But once we got up there to the ridge you could see an incredibly long way across the area on the other side.
We then back tracked to a small cemetery we saw in the middle of a farmers field on our way to vimy. We had to walk about 300 yards off the road and then we visited the quiet Canadian (Thelma) cemetery. It was very peaceful. We signed the guest book and were on our way after wandering for a short while. It was well gardened with neat pretty white tombstones.
We then visited the German cemetery at neuville st vaast. It was much larger had four burials to every metal cross and was generally much starker.
After that we went to the Airbnb with a stop at a grocery store. We then cooked ourselves supper and then I had cheese plate yummy.
Our Airbnb is beautiful. It’s an apartment on the second story with a beautiful balcony that looks over a field at the sunset. It even comes with free eggs from the chickens downstairs. Yummy. Plus she left us sweet bread for breakfast tomorrow. All around good times.
