Thursday 30th August 2018 - What did we get up to today? That's a good question.
Up early to undertake the 2 ½ hour drive into Derby. On arrival we had a coffee & visited a couple of Art Galleries before making our way to a caravan park where we stored the Ute for the night and to be picked up to go to the airport.
We were met at the airport by our pilot, boarded a small seaplane and took off for a scenic flight to Talbot Bay where we flew over the majestic Horizontal Falls and then enjoyed a spectacular water landing beside a houseboat.
After we disembarked from the seaplane we were shown to our cabin that will be our home for the night.
Changed into our swimmers & walked across to the shark cage where we swam with the Tawny Sharks and viewed various other marine fish.
Next we boarded a very fast boat that had 1000hp engines. Phil tells me that this is the same as a Bugatti Veyron so it should go fast!! We then started our second activity for the afternoon.
We enjoyed a relaxing cruise into Cyclone Creek before heading to the Horizontal Falls that are one of the most amazing natural phenomenon's that consist of intense tidal currents that hurtle through two narrow gorges that create a waterfall effect.
We arrived at the stunning sight of the falls and after a short time we had several runs through the fast rushing water that was swirling and bubbling around us.
We then moved onto the second falls where the gap between the tall sides of the gorge was narrower. The boat was taken into the middle and we sat with the torrents of water rushing past us on both sides before we powered through.
We went back and forth numerous times through both falls and experienced an exhilarating boat ride. Wow what a thrill.
We then returned to the houseboat for drinks and nibbles to watch another wonderful sunset before a BBQ Barramundi dinner.
Friday 31st August 2018 - We woke up to the gorgeous views of the Talbot Bay through our cabin window as the sun was rising to start another day. After breakfast we jumped back into the boat for more exhilarating runs through the first of the Horizontal Falls.
We only sat close to the second of the Horizontal Falls because it was unsafe to go through the narrow gap due to the height and drop of the torrent of water rushing through it.
Back to the houseboat to wait for the seaplane that was due to pick us for our return journey to Derby.
Now back on board we took off & flew over the top of the magnificent Horizontal Falls before continuing our scenic flight across the thousand island Buccaneer Archipelago and the mud flats with its interesting tributaries.
We landed & went back to the caravan park to collect our Ute and as we walked towards the Ute we saw two pure white Peacocks. What a fun packed 24 hours.
Wow! Wow! Wow! What a magical trip we have just experienced & a magnificent finish to an unforgettable week.
