Wednesday 24th October 2018 - We woke to a chilly morning with the birds singing in the trees. After breakfast we hitched up and headed back along the unsealed track. We had a pleasant surprise as the track had been graded making our passage out a lot smoother than going in.
We had to make a short stop on our way out of the national park as we came across a Carpet Python crossing the track. It didn't seem to be in a hurry so it gave us the opportunity to take a photo before it finally moved into the bush.
The drive in and out of the Yalgorup was a pretty one with flowering wattle trees lining the sides of the track and fields littered with small white rocks that appeared to be sitting amongst red coloured soil that on a closer look was actually small red flowers from ground covering plants.
Our next stop was at Preston Beach where we walked along a pathway between the high sand dunes that were scattered with vegetation and flowering plants. The narrow gap opened out onto a white sandy beach, flat blue water and blue sky. The scene was odd as it was hard to work out were the ocean finished and the sky began.
On the move again, we drove through the Yalgorup wetlands with migratory birds wading in the water on either side of the road to Buffalo Beach for a cuppa by the beach to watch the waves break along the shore. We noted that we had only travelled a short way along the coast but in that time the wind had picked up and the ocean was now rough and the waves seemed to crawl up the beach instead of gently rolling in.
Before we headed off we watched a few Silvereye's and Black-Faced Cuckoo-Strikes darting in and out of the shrubs that surrounded the car park.
Our final stop for the day was at Bunbury that gave a respite from the mosquitos. Throughout the National Park there were warning signs everywhere concerning the mossies and believe me there were a lot of them!

Kaye Nutman The mozzies can give you Lyme disease, so protection is always key. Despite that, it all sounds restful!
