Yesterday we arrived at the Thai/Laos border, and stayed overnight on the Laos border side. We took a private boat journey to Pak Beng which is a small port 7 hours into Laos along the Mekong River. It pissed it down the whole way there and all night! We went to the only bar in the town called Hive Bar, where they had tasty cocktails. They had one called p**** Food. I stuck to beer and home made whisky. Fair to say we all got pretty drunk despite the bar closing at 11.30.
Today we took our boat again and it was an 8 hour journey to Luang Prabang, however we stopped at a local village on the way were the local children tried to sell us junk. Rikki bought some. I didnt mind as it cost like 40p. But then again so does a beer! We also stopped at a cave on the way which was ok but you get better ones in Yorkshire.
The hotel we are staying in now is gorgeous. Its called Thong Bay in Luang Prabang if you wana check it out. Staying here for 3 nights so should be blogging most days.
Going for a beer now. bye
P.S - On the STA travel blog website they award bloggers of the day. I won it the other day. I presume no-one else must have blogged!

Judd How did u manage 8 hours in that boat without a toilet or is that why there is so much flotsam & jetsam along the Mekong! Looks awesome. Enjoy x

Alejandro I bought this book last week in Vientiane for I love Lao conokig for many years and like to have authentic receipes to try out more authentic dishes. And it is great. Not only the warm hearted story of the Boat Landing and it's people, also the descriptions of ingredients and ways to substitute things you can't buy in Germany (my home country where I am now and tried the first dish Luang Prabang fried rice yesterday delicious) are helpful and unique.
