Up early again Wednesday morning to catch the ferry to Macau. We remembered our passports this time! We also got another stamp in it. The ferry, or high speed catamaran if you like took just over an hour but it went quicker as we fell asleep. Outside the port terminal free shuttle buses lined up from each casino to take you there for free. We decided on going to the Grand Lisboa first as it was central to the other casinos and apparently one of the best.
It wasnt like Vegas at all. The casinos were huge, sparkling and very impressive but unlike Vegas they were spread out and not on one road/strip. We headed straight for the Roulette. Rikki put 10 dollars on red 23. She won 500 dollars on her first go! Great start! We had a few more goes and quit whilst we were ahead. We were up nearly 1000! We then headed over to the Wynn which was really nice only minimum bets on blackjack were 300 dollars (25 quid). I didnt want to put that much on 1 game of blackjack! It was a top notch casino, especially when in the carpark they have 3 Rolls Royce lined up with a Bentley either side. Time to go. Next door was the MGM Grand and then from there we took the free bus to the Venetian. It was huge and very busy. We won more money too! They had the Gonola's and the singing men but we didnt have a go. I refused to pay for it. I think anyones first gondala ride should be in venice and not in a Chinese hotel with hundreds of Chinese people shouting and taking pictures of it.
We only went on the Roulette as we didnt understand the other games except blackjack and poker. We won over 1500 which was a good days earnings! Particularly as there is only ever one winner in gambling... the bookies. So we were very happy. It wasnt as good as Vegas in any sense, even though Macau boasts the largest casino in the world, and the amount of money gambled each year is nearly triple that of Vegas! The Yanks simply do things better. Nice try China though! At least I think we were in China. I said it was a seperate state but Rikki didnt agree. To be fair, we both got text messages saying welcome to China.
We were up even earlier the next morning to get the bus to Ocean Park. Its ranked as the 12th best theme park in the world, and has 2 Panda's on show. It was only 20 quid in each, which is brilliant considering Alton Towers is 40 quid! Plus we get to see a couple of Pandas! We were there before the park opened and front of the queue to get in. Rikki wasnt happy that we were there early but I dont like to queue for rides. We went on one ride twice which was hands down the second best ride I have ever been on. We nearly shat oursleves!!! We went on other rides which were ok then headed off to see the animals. We saw penguins and seals but also a huge walrus. There was a viewing gallery under the water and the walrus swam down and looked straight at Rikki. Only a piece of glass seperated them. We then went to see the Panda's which were cool. Fat and lazy though. They just sat there until someone brought them Bamboo. No wonder they are nearly extinct. We got to within about 5m of a Panda and it sat there and stared at Rikki. Every animal we go see has some sort of interaction with Rikki. Shes wierd like that! Like Doctor Doolittle or something! Ocean Park was good, but not as good as everyone makes out. The Panda's are worth seeing though even if they are fat and lazy.
Today we went to see the Big Buddha on Lantau island. The weather, yet again, was miserable. We got the cable car, which had a glass see through bottom, to the Buddha. It was so foggy that you couldnt even see the cable car in front of you. We climbed the steps to the Buddha and we still couldnt see it due to the fog! After 15 minutes though it cleared and we got a great view. We could also see the Buddha too! I was impressed... Rikki said "Is that it? Thought it would be bigger. Can we go now!" I made her walk around it twice because of that comment. As we got to the bottom of the 250 steps we looked back up at the Buddha only it was gone. The fog had decended again. We got the cable car back down and we greeted by peeple trying to flog us crap. Rikki was interested, I walked off.
We are sat in the public library now, which is huge and really nice. Maybe I like it more as I dont have to do any work unlike at uni. We have done nearly everything there is to do in Hong Hong. Star Ferry, Central, Markets, Lantau Island, Macau, Disneyland, Ocean Park just to name a few. Not sure what we are going to do for our last few days. We are going back to the night market later for some more local grub which was really nice and Rikki wants to buy more rubbish.
Well this will be my penultimate blog! Time has flown by! My last blog wil be either on Sunday on Monday!
