To get to Jakarta we had to fly from Sandakan to Kota Kinabalu, then KK to Jakarta. The flight from Sandakan should of been at half 2 but we didnt leave until 1 hour later. Luckily the next flight wasnt until 6.30pm. However the plane broke down!! So we were delayed 5 hours!! Never the less the airline gave everyone a KFC voucher so we got a free meal! We landed in Jakarta at 12.40 at night. The queue through customs was the worst I have ever experienced. It took 2 hours to get through. People hit you with bags, stood on your feet, pushed in front of you. Nightmare!! We eventuallt arrived at the hotel about 3 ish I think!
The hotel is clean and the room has a decent TV with football channels! I was made up until I switched Man Utd on with 5 minutes to go and they scored. Im still in a mood about it. Scum. Breakfast is also included and is nice except I accidently ate a chilli, mistaking it for a pepper. It woke me up anyway. The hotel is cheap too and the location is spot on! we overlook the 5th biggest mosque in the world and there are other attractions close by. Me and Rikki however seem to be the biggest attraction with people taking photos and filming us. They must think its posh and becks!
Its polluted and dirty and reminds me of India a little. They burn rubbish on the street, people spit etc. The people are nice though and they always call me sir. Even people on the street say hello sir. I tut and say, please... call me master kirk. Its so far really cheap too. I bought some street food which cost 45p. or 5000 IR!! I had fried banana, some wierd tofu stuff and something else that I cant even describe! Rikki looked at me in disgust so we went to Starbucks to fulfill her needs. It made us home sick as they served the coffee in a christmas mug and played christmas songs!
We are going to do more exploring tomorrow. Maybe even try the subway. Not sure its safe though. We stick out like a sore thumb. So 2 more nights then we fly to Singapore then on to Manila. Dad - We fly on Batavia then Tiger Airways.
Despite all the moaning we actually like Jakarta so far. But its no where near as good as Kuala Lumpur or Singapore. But I would recommend it as it puts you out of your comfort zone a little.
Going to get food now. Next blog will be from the Philippines :)

Judd Just be careful in Jakarta! It sounds fascinating and a place I always wanted to visit but we were advised against it when in Bali. Been to G&G today and they have got ur postcard from Ko Samui. They were impressed. Aunutie May has got one as well and think most of Barnsley know about it. It put their footie team off as Town won 1 v 0! Dont forget the cards from Tiger/Batavia. Have a brill time. Missing you both xxx
