We checked out of our room in Manila at 1pm but we didnt fly until 8.30pm. So we went to the cinema and watched the new Bond movie, which was brilliant! Hands down the best Bond movie ever. Anyway, we landed in Hong Kong and got the taxi to the hostel. We arrived at the hostel at 11.50pm. We got really lucky as the guy who owned the place was about to give our room away as he thought we were a no show! The room was tiny and was just about clean. We were on the 17th floor (top floor), however the lift only went as high as the 16th so we had to take the stairs. The place we were staying was called the Chungking Mansions which hosted over 100 hostels. The stairs were horrible, with cockroaches, blood and other things splattered on the walls! Our room was clean and blood free thankfully! The bathroom was so small, you could do your business on the loo, whilst having a shave and a shower at the same time. My room in the 1st year of uni was bigger than this.
The location of the hostel was brilliant as it was on Nathan Road, Kowloon. Opposite was Tiffany's, Chanel, Prada, and a 2 minute walk takes you to the viewing site of the skyline. On our first day we went to Mongkok, 3 stops north on the metro, to the ladies market. Rikki loved it as it was full of junk. I used my negotiating skills to land some bargains. Ive done most of my christmas shopping here. We then later that night watched the light show on the viewing deck. It was really spectacular! (See picture).
On our second day we headed over to central and went on the peak tram. It was a cloudy day but visibility was still good. It was, however, freezing!! Well, 18 degrees! We ate at Bubba Gump Shrimp. Where else! We were sat on a table that looked down on the skyline of Hong Kong which was great. Rikki then bought more Bubba Gump merchandice!
Up early yesterday morning as we were to catch the 9am ferry to Macau. We bought the tickets, had a coffee and then headed through to the gate. Only we had forgot our passports. Well we didnt forget them, we didnt realise you needed them! Luckily they gave us a refund and we are saving Macau for another day. Instead we went to Dinsenyland! It was really small and really quiet, which meant that we went on all the rides before 1pm! It was good with all the christmas lights but it rained all afternoon.
We are now staying in a different hotel. The location isnt as good but the room is modern and nice. Never the less, its smaller than the hostel! Its about 8ft by 7ft! There is no where to put our bags, So they are laid on the foot of the bed! Its not too much of an issue as we are usually out and about doing something! Later we are going to do the star ferry at night, then head to the night market for some local grub! So far we love Hong Kong, apart from the weather. I have been here twice now and it has rained everyday.
Tomorrow we hope to head to Macau, Thursday we go to Ocean Park and the rest is not yet planned. 7 days to go and we will be sat in the airport waiting to fly home...

Anne Wondered where you had got to!! Been checking the blog every day.18 degrees - freezing! Make the most of it. Getting colder here and our village has been marooned twice in a week. Enjoy Hong Kong, we weren't there long enough but I really enjoyed it and would like to go back. Looking forward to seeing your mum and Pam soon for our Liverpool weekend. Also looking forward to seeing you both at New Year and hearing all about your travels. Take care. xx
