Hey everyone!
So, I went to the manicipality of Santiago, which is the municipality of my districa of La Venta. I waited there for two hours to talk to someone about La Venta. Apparently this is how they do things in Peru. You wait around alot for things. When I finally talked to someone about my site, I found out that the government already has a trash and recycling project they are starting next year as well as a water pump and storage system. So, why am I here then! I was pretty upset after finding out this information. What am I going to work on for the next few years! I´ll just have to find something. Probably farther away from my site, in one of the smaller sites. Who knows.
So the next day, I pretty much took the day off and went to my friend Kates site. We were supposed to make posters for hand washing and worm composting bins, but we just talked and hung out and studied spanish a little instead. It was more fun. Her site is really out in the campo. Using her latrine was the most unsomfortable thing. There is a blanket that is used for a door, but the wind blows it into the latrine. So peope can see that you are trying to hold the blanket out from you when you are going to the bathroom. I laughed about that. Its always a good thing, to be able to laugh at yourself. Its necessary here in the peace corps.
Just as a note, I am so sick of water melon! We eat it twice a day almost every day. Its because watermelon is in season right now, and my host uncle owns a field of it. I can´t eat any more watermelon! I dream about them now! They attack me when I am walking down the street. In the next few months, we´ll have figs, mangos, plums, and grapes. YAY! PS. Mangos are so good here! They have more taste than I could ever imagine!
Hope things are well in the states!
Happy travels,
Teigan
