This is it, the last blog post from my Bali times! Last thursday it finally happened, I got my first corruption ticket from the police. I had checked early in the morning that the ASP tour competition is on, so Hanna-Maria and I decided to drive to Keramas. On a way to Keramas there was police officers checking driver licenses and my license was stolen few months ago, so I had to pay to the nice police officers. After that the trip to Keramas continued about 10 minutes... and same s*** again! What are the odds to drive without any corruption ticket for 6 months, and then on the last week pay twice in 10 minutes? Even though it's not so big amount of money, especially compared to prices in Finland, it makes you angry that so obvious corruption is allowed. But yeah, not much you can do but continue towards Keramas . After like one hour drive we arrived there just to see that the competition was canceled for the rest of the day because of the small waves, terrific! Because of the cancelation we drove to Ubud to get some relaxation for the disappointment. First we visited the monkey forest to see those sneaky monkeys and after that just walked around the streets, quite alright day nonetheless.
Midsummer fest was last week and in here it is not celebrated, so we had a local wine bottle to celebrate it properly. It was my first time to actually drink wine here, so it was very pleasant change from Bintangs. I also got some calls from Finland and I have to admit feeling just a little bit jealous, but surfing Uluwatu helped a lot. The ASP tour continued yesterday, so we drove to Keramas again and this time the competition was finally on. My schoolmate Ole had also returned from Nusa Lembongan and joined us to see how the professionals ripped those great barreling waves. It was a great day in the beach watching all the pros and later that evening Skygarden's eat-all-you-can -buffet served the hungry ones after long day. That's pretty much the latest actions here beside all that surfing, but I'll think everybody has had enough about me ranting about it.
Half a year, huh... A lot has happened during my Bali times and it is hard to describe all those feelings now. I have experienced such a great semester and I hope that not a day goes by without cherishing these times:
- around 170 days in Indonesia
- over hundred friends and acquaintances from all around the world
- 25 university credits
- 6 islands: Bali, Lombok, Nusa Lembongan, Nusa Ceningan, Gili Trawangan and Gili Air
- around 140 surf days, even more paddle-outs
- searched over 20 surf breaks
- tens of reef cuts and scars
- 3 surfboards, tens of dings
- thousands of kilometers with scooter, hours in the traffic jams, 2 corruption ticket
- various places of sleep: Villas, hostels, homestays, couches and surf bag
- 5 times caught a cold, fever, diarrheas and a food poison
- plenty of memorable parties, Bintangs and high fives
All of these and much more included in previous months and I can't even ask more. I could easily say that I have successfully turned my money into a something more valuable, and actually fulfill my dream to live a simple and careless life abroad where sun shines and waves hits the beach. When I think about the one greatest thing during this time, I'd want to say surfing these big ass great waves. But the truth about the greatest thing is, that I was blessed to share this experience with all those amazing people I've met. This thought concludes my blog and it's time to give my most sincere thanks to the people I've met here, friends who visited me, my friends and family back in Finland who supported me the whole time... Love & respect! For the last time, Peace Out!
