Even in Bali, it takes some time getting used to the fact, that it's holiday. The first week after the closing ceremony of the university was quite memorable. Many close friend after another left home and it was time for the last beers... so lot of Bintangs were destroyed when we said goodbyes properly. When people share and spend time in unusual places, like this half a year in Bali, they bond together in a very special way. For one moment, they belong together like a family. Then it's time to separate and every one of us will go back to the normal life, one huge experience richer. One of my friend back in Finland said, that there's gonna be hugs and tears before leaving from Finland, but leaving from Bali/saying goodbyes there won't be any easier... and damned, she was right!
Last Wednesday it was time to leave Bali behind for a while. Arttu and I drove to Padang Bai and took a ferry to Lombok. The ferry takes around 5 hours, so we decided to travel during the night time. We were at the harbour before 11pm and the ferry left quite after our arrival. At the passenger site, there was bench rows after another, but sitting and sleeping wasn't the best option. In the front there was some space to lay down on the floor, which meant another night in my cozy surf bag, and I slept good. We arrived to Lombok before 5am and drove in a chilly weather to familiar Kuta Lombok. I spent my spring break at Kuta Lombok so I knew the places beforehand. Returning to Kuta Lombok after two months was incredible, because many local still remembered me and welcomed me back. Especially it was nice to meet Agus the Photographer again. He took some great pictures when I was surfing at Seger, but this time those surf pictures were left behind. We spent three days at Kuta Lombok going around the places there and at the local warung we also met Jussi, my schoolmate from Bali.
Last Sunday it was time to continue towards the Gili Islands. Me and Arttu drove through Lombok to Banggsal and after 3 hours driving and not feeling our asses anymore, we arrived to the harbour. Harbour of Banggsal is quite "famous", because before the ticket office there are so many people trying to sell you overpriced boats to Gili's. But we managed to get the cheap tickets and arrived to Gili Trawangan at the afternoon around 4pm. Gili Trawangan is the most hectic island from the 3 Gili Islands. There are a lot of western tourists, diving companies and western culture has taken over the island. But it was worth seeing the island , so two nights there were alright. We drove around the island with bikes, found great beaches, met some people and just relaxed. Even though it's quite hard to find a decent and original local warung at Gili Trawangan, because most restaurants are for the western-eating-western-fat-ass-turists, the night market was one of the best things there. At the Night market, we found cheap and delicious local food from basic Nasi Campur to grilled seafood.
Today it was time to change the island and in the morning we took a boat to Gili Air. Maybe two or three nights here before going back to Bali. Half a day here and I can say, that this island fits better for me... at least less tourists. Despite the fight against the aging, I'm turning 27 tomorrow. I have always said, that I'm only aging but not maturing... Don't know if that's all true anymore. But at least I can celebrate my old ass with the company of my best friend Arttu, so no worries. Peace Out!
