After a noisy night last night (the miners were driving around and calling out and drinking all night) we actually got moving early. We were on the rusty red road by 8:30am. Our first stop in Karijini National Park was around 9:30am at the Junction Pool Lookout and Oxer Lookout which is the junction of 4 major gorges in the National Park - the Red gorge, Weano gorge, Hancock gorge & Joffre gorge. The scenery was beautiful. We then walked the Hancock gorge which is the hardest gorge in the national park being a class 4 + class 5 walk. Roger carried Bronte but Josh did an amazing job. It's actually a really hard walk with 2 ladders, a water crossing and clambering over smooth rock ledgers. The gorge was beautiful and when we arrived at the Amphitheatre Josh was in heaven as there were pebbles everywhere that he could throw into the water. As the kids played around the water (which they both fell into as the rocks around the water were really slippery and they didn't listen to us), Roger & I took it in turns to walk through the Spider walk (which is pretty much walking through a very small gap between 2 cliffs with water running below and climbing rocks with a hand and foot on each side). We were rewarded with making it to the end of the walk and another pretty pool called Kermits.
Everyone who walked past the kids were amazed how the kids made the walk, but Josh loved it. (CMJs, you would be very proud of him!). We got back to the car around 12:30pm. Had a quick lunch then drove to Knox Lookout and Joffre Lookout. Both beautiful gorges and we would of loved to have walked Joffre gorge as it had a beautiful big waterfall but we decided to head back to Dales Campground and have a swim in Fern Pool again. I think the water is freezing but very refreshing after our walk and also to try and get some red dirt off us - we are filthy! We got back to our campsite around 3:30pm and the kids did some colouring in and played with 2 girls (Keely & Bella). We had a butterflied roast lamb for dinner outside and then our German friends (Theresa & Felix) came over and we had a nice chat. Josh fell asleep on Felix's lap which was very cute.
On our drive home from the gorges to Dales campground we got another chip in the windscreen from a 4WD who was driving in the middle of the road instead of on his side. It's our worst chip so far but still only small.
