Day 56 - Point Quobba to Carnarvon (79km/1hr)
We left Point Quobba at 7:40am and stopped briefly at the blow hole but it wasn’t very big and we spotted a few whale spouts. We then continued driving and saw lots of emus including a young one and one that crossed the road in front of us.
We arrived in Carnarvon around 8:30am and went straight to the Saturday markets. It is mostly fresh produce from all the nearby plantations. I bought lots of fresh vegetables (there wasn’t any fruit).
We then went next door to the visitor information to pick up the map for the fruit loop drive trail. We drove the 10km loop and saw lots of plantations growing corn, tomatoes, mangoes, grapes, zucchini, melons. I think we must have been out of season as the only plantation that seemed to be open was Bumbak’s. They mostly sell preserves and ice creams so we ended up buying a mango nut dip.
We then decided to treat ourselves to fish, squid, prawns & chips for lunch. I ordered a bit too much food so we were all feeling very full afterwards. It’s another windy day but we found a nice wind break down by the foreshore.
We then had some fun at the Carnarvon Space & Technology Museum. We watched a movie in the planetarium about landing on the moon then the kids dressed up in space suits and we climbed in a replica spaceship for an Apollo experience which was a movie of Buzz & Neil’s blast off. There was lots of memorabilia to look at information to read. The kids loved the interactive exhibit and we spent hours playing and getting our photo taken on the moon!
We then drove to look at One Mile Jetty. Sadly this is closed as it needs major repairs so the town is trying to raise funds to repair. This is where Rog was hoping to go fishing.
We then went back to the foreshore so the kids could play at the park and we went for a walk over the footbridge. On the other side was an old train track and station.
Then a quick shop at Woolworths and filled the car with fuel then back to the caravan.
I caught up on the washing then made bruschetta for dinner with all our yummy fresh produce - it was so good!
