We flew to Zurich for a weekend getaway and also to celebrate Thanksgiving with Patrizia and Gundula. Yet again, the journey was an absolute breeze and in no time at all we were back on familiar territory. We spent the afternoon looking around the shops and enjoying the charming Christmas decorations which put us in a festive mood. Once we arrived at Patrizia and Gundula's apartment, we toasted our arrival with a celebratory Gin and Tonic before sitting down to enjoy an amazing 7kg turkey feast. It was hands down the best turkey we have ever eaten. What more could you ask for than to be in great company enjoying a wonderful meal and fantastic wine? Feeling stuffed and rosy cheeked we said goodnight and fell into bed with fingers crossed in the hope that the morning would bring a dusting of snow. As predicted the city was coated with a layering of snow, so full of excitement we drove to Einsiedeln for our promised winter wonderland. The scenery was absolutely breath taking and everyone was out and about sledding and skiing on the powdery surface. Tanya and I felt like kids again, completely in awe of our gorgeous surroundings. We visited the monastery and walked around the pretty Christmas market taking in the sights and all the delicious aromas of the many food stalls. To ward off the wintry chill, we gladly guzzled a lovely warming glass of mulled wine. It was such a perfect day and exactly what we hoped to experience from our trip. After a full and beautiful day, we drove back to Zurich and enjoyed a relaxing evening with a great bottle of red, watching re-runs of Sex and the City. On our last morning we headed to a nearby town in the hills for a spectacular view of Zurich and to catch our last glimpse of the snow coated magical scenery. It was great to spend time with our friends and also to experience Zurich in a different season.
