Krakow is one of the oldest cities in Poland, and the old part has a fascinating history and a rich heritage. We visited the royal castle at Wawel Hill which also offers views of the city from this higher vantage point. The late Pope John Paul II lived in Krakow for many years and a statue of him can be found at the Episcopal Palace. We also visited the sight of Schindlers factory. The central market square is largest town square anywhere in Europe. The atmosphere was very lively as it was full of Christmas market stalls, musicians, and local artist and we brought back some delicious confectionaries for our colleagues in London. One evening we found a lovely Italian restaurant and had a sublime meal and fantastic bottle of wine... if only one could remember what it was called....
