A weekend break was on the cards and Zurich was the perfect destination. After a quick and easy journey we were back on familiar territory and ready for some much needed rest and relaxation. After a quick stop at Sprungli for a box of decadently delicious white chocolate truffles we took a leisurely stroll to our favourite green leafy spot overlooking the river. We met Patrizia after work and armed with bags of groceries we made our way to her new home. Set in a tranquil location, a stones throw from Lake Zurich with a lovely outside space, give it the makings of a wonderful new home. On our first evening, Patrizia and Gundula threw a dinner party and after an awkward start we sat down to a traditional Swiss dinner of Raclette. It was actually quite delicious and consisted of a ton of cheese and various salad ingredients. It was like a do it yourself dinner where you grilled your own cheese and ate what you wanted to. Being the queen of pasta, Patrizia also made a large portion of pasta with a meat ragu. After a mountain of food we were well and truly stuffed and ready for bed. The next day was grey and miserable but undeterred we hopped into the car for a drive in the countryside. Our first stop was Zug where we had the local cherry cake which was drowned in cherry liqueur. After a walk around the town and a visit to the bird sanctuary we set off to Lucerne hoping for a break in the rain and crossing our fingers for some sunshine. Unfortunately it was not meant to be and the picture perfect view of the snow capped mountains eluded us. Maybe another time luck would be on our side. For now we enjoyed a walk around the crystal clear lake followed by a Guinness in an Irish pub whilst watching the France v England rugby match. Patrizia was keen for us to try a roast chicken that would rock our world, so with the promise of an amazing meal we endured a tense drive that lead us to chicken heaven. In fairness, it was delicious however it certainly was the most expensive chicken that has ever passed our lips. Once again our visit was short and sweet and soon enough we were on our way back to good old Blighty.
