We arrived in Amsterdam full of excitement and ready to begin our girly weekend. This was Emma and Jay's first time to the Dam so we couldn't wait to explore the city and fully immerse ourselves in its hedonistic, diverse and surreal atmosphere. Since our apartment wasn't ready we headed to the nearest coffee shop for something chocolaty and herby. Enveloped in a warm, fuzzy glow we made our way to the nearest supermarket for an interesting and funny experience. Mulling over what to buy with our heads in the clouds is no easy task but armed with all our supplies we finally checked into our home for the weekend. With the wine open, music on and snacks at the ready we prepared ourselves for the evening ahead. After an amazing and truly satisfying steak dinner, we decided to wander down to the Red light district and further our education with an eye opening sex show at Casa Rossa. The clientele was a diverse mix of young and old and was not as seedy as we first thought. It was rather voyeuristic and for an instant it felt like we were trespassing in someone's bedroom but soon enough we were transfixed and our awkwardness was replaced with curiosity. With eyes fully open and pink cheeked we spilled onto the pavement after the show, no longer able to contain our giggles and amazement at what we had just seen. The night would not be complete without a boogie, so after viewing some of the ladies behind their glass windows we made our way to club NL. Lost in the music we danced our way into the wee hours of the morning before heading home and falling into a deep slumber.
The next day, we wanted to do something cultural, so after a hearty breakfast we walked to the Anne Frank museum. Unfortunately, the insanely long queue and the rain quashed our cultural spirit so instead we ventured into a cosy and tiny coffee shop and travelled to Cambodia for a sweet and deliriously happy experience. We spent a few hours firmly moulded to our seats watching the world go by and giggling at our inability to have a single fluid conversation. We could have stayed there all day but somehow, miraculously we got our jelly legs to move and walked as gracefully as we could to the sex museum, where we spent some time looking at the exhibitions and trying not to laugh too much at the surreal environment we were in. Before going to the apartment we stopped at the supermarket to cure our snack attack and then it was time for part two of our pre-dinner ritual. We danced around the living room, listening to soulful tunes whilst getting ready for our last night in the Dam. We had dinner at a Thai restaurant around the corner and hungrily devoured our food. Every mouthful was a taste sensation. Feeling full and content we walked around the canals and streets, absorbing the pulse and vibrancy of the nightlife and popping into a bar or two to enjoy some cocktails. To end the night, we went back to club NL for a taste of deep house. After another dance session, we dragged our tired feet back home for a well-deserved sleep.
Today is our last morning in Amsterdam, so after breakfast and a final farewell to the city, it was time to go to the airport. We had the best time and being able to spend it in the company of such great friends was fantastic. It was a fun escape from normality and the laughs and moments we shared will forever be captured on video. Here's to the next great escape, Ladies.
