Not so celebrity master chef (Thai style).
I've Had another fantastic day today in Bangkok despite monsoon season well and truly living up to it's name.
For once the heavy thunder & rain didn't bother me as it was the day I enrolled on the "Silom Thai Cooking School!!"
What a fantastic experience this was. It began at a local Market where our very camp and sarcastic tutor taught us the meaning of a variety of spices & herbs.
We then went back to his school to begin the preparation of food. Gents to peel the Ginger/onions and women to wash the food.
Next was the preparation of the food; chopping and how to make natural coconut milk.
I learned that Thai cooking has 4 main parts:
1. The key ingredients - spices, ginger, herbs
2. The protein - chicken, shrimp
3. The seasoning - sugar, fish sauce
4. The fillers - carrots, bean sprouts, peppers
We cooked and ate 5 courses one by one.
1. Tom Yum Koong (spicy prawn soup)
2. Pad Thai Noodles
3. Chicken salad
4. Green curry
5. Banana in coconut milk
This is really a unique experience, and although I went for the cheaper option of the various cooking courses Bangkok has to offer, it certainly didn't lack in quality.
The tutor was a scream and it was a great way to meet more great people!
After consuming every course I now feel like I'm going to explode. So what better way than to dance it off in Khao San Road tonight (Bangkok's main nightlife strip)
Tomorrow I'm heading to Pattaya (finally a beach!) but apparently it's like Bangkok with a beach! My plan is then to head on the east coast till reach Cambodia and do an anti clockwise loop of South East Asia.
