After spending a fantastic final day in KL with Steve & Ceri from back home, it was time to move on to my final destination in South East Asia; Singapore.
As I was enjoying myself a little too much, I left it about as late as I possibly could and just caught the bus to the airport by 2minutes. I checked in with plenty of time to spare and the flight over here was painless.
I found my way on the MRT (train) to the city, however when I reached the hostel it was fully booked. This was the first time this has happened on this trip.
I was wandering aimlessly for a couple of hours around Singapore trying to find a hostel. I was cursing the Lonely Planet book as I seemed to be walking around in circles. Little did I realise I had my North & South mixed up!
I soon stumbled across a hostel called abc, fortunately they had room at the inn & I was able to rest my tired body.
Thanks to the late night, I slept till the afternoon and gave myself very little time to explore the city today.
I made the most of the afternoon by taking a walk to Little India. This was a bizarre place as it seemed like I entered a different country. The area is packed with Indian people, multicoloured buildings, mosques and Temples.
I stumbled across a type of flee Market (pictured) which was packed with people bumping into you. This is not a place for you if you suffer from claustraphobia, in addition, I was clearly the only westerner there.
Being well aware that I'm about to hit a slighly colder climate when I travel to Sydney tomorrow, I spotted a fleece that had my name on it. I
Couldn't resist one final bartering experience either!
I stopped at "the famous fish head steamboat" for some chilli chicken & rice. I'm not quite sure what it was famous for but it was established in 1983 (the year I was born).
As the evening set in I took a walk down Victoria Street to the Bugis Junction shopping centre. I took a salted caramel ice cream break at venezia's Italian ice cream parlour.
Singapore is the cleanest cities I've visited so far on my trip. With many modern shopping centres, tall buildings and a very high standard of public transport, it feels like I'm back in London (despite the transport bit!)
I still can't get it into my head that I'm about to leave South East Asia. I have developed many happy memories here and am certain to return at some point. I also can't believe I'm halfway through my travelling experience!
Looking forward to meeting my friends Rachael & Tracey in Sydney tomorrow, but not looking forward to waking up at 5am!
