Matt and Ant's Travels
The girls had a dive booked for today so Matt and I went with Anna and Becca to Hire a boat for the day. It only cost about 30 pounds including fuel so it wasnt too bad. We decided to try and catch some fish for dinner and bought some line and weights and mini octopus to see what we could get. I think at this point we were expecting to catch Blue Marlin or something! We set off on the boat which was pretty slow and headed out towards swallows cave dragging fishing lines behind us. Our Bait was corned beef and chicken luncheon so its not surprising that we caught absolutely nothing. After spending some time at a beach resort trying to catch some small fish to use as bait with no luck we carried on out away from the main island. After sailing for about an hour we came to a very small island called Nuku....this is exactly what we were expecting from the south pacific! It was a completely deserted white sand beach with clear blue waters....it is the most beautiful island i have ever seen...we were all just in awe of the place. After spending some time at the island we headed back towards the mainland only to find the waves had got a lot bigger and the wind had picked up. Our small little boat was struggling along when we got pushed into shallow waters and the boat hit a rock on the bottom of the sea! We were so worried about sinking but luckily it seemed as though no water was coming in. As we manouvered our way out of this little problem we found that the engine was working but the boat just wasnt moving....we started rowing towards some land nearby only to find that because of the strong current we just ended up going round in circles. We were all getting pretty worried at this point when a boat came and saved us and took us to the nearest beach to call for help. The thing was that a new propeller costs a lot of money and we just dont have that kind of money! Anyway the owner picked us up and when we got back asked us what happened. Not wanting to have to pay such a lot of money we just said that it stopped working and so she started appologising to us and gave us a discount on the price because apparently they had fixed the wrong propeller onto the boat and so she thought that was the problem.....I know its checky but what else were we to do we left smiling and thanking our lucky stars that we didnt have to pay an absolute fortune to the boat owner!!
