Matt and Ant's Travels
Today was our first excursion...Sea Kayaking. We arrived at the centre pretty early in the morning and were kitted out with dry bags, snorkelling gear and these funny skirts to keep the water out and finally set off in our 2 person kayaks down and out through the harbour. It was a really beautiful day and luckily the weather was calm and the group was pretty strong. It is a lot harder than any of us expected but strangley Matt and I took to it as if we had been doing it our whole lives. We Kayaked out of the harbour and headed down towards Mala which was to be our first stop. It took us about 2 hours to finally get there but it was lovely as we were rowing over coral reefs and got to see down to all the beautiful coral and fish. We finally arrived at Mala and had some lunch before going snorkelling. I managed to go a lot further then before and saw somw beautiful fish. It is so amazing what you can see so close to the shore. At about 1pm our guide asked us if we would like to take the hardest route and go and visit swallows cave. This is a cave where you can enter it and it has some amazing sights in the cave with birds nesting and coral beneath you. We chose the hard option and kayaked all the way there which took us a good hour. I think by this point everyone else was getting more and more tired and Matt and I were getting faster....the cave was awesome and we got to spend a little while there, Matt did some more snorkelling before heading back. The journey back was sooooo long. It took us 4 hours of hard rowing with hardly any breaks to finally get back. Matt and I didnt find it too hard but everyone else were absolutley shattered! I think that Matt and I just managed to get the right rythm and power to get it right and singing as we went really helped. It was such a fun day and the adrenaline was really flowing by the time we got back.
We decided not to cook and went to the Mermaid Bar for dinner as Tongan bobs was shut. The food was good company even better and it turned out to be a pretty good night!
