Southwestern Excursion
The day began with a full breakfast at the Maswik Food Court. We had a smooth water rafting excursion booked with Colorado River Discovery. The rafting location was 2 1/2 hours away so we had a bit of a grove ahead of us. Desert View Drive To get to the area of the river for the tour we could either board a bus at our lodge for an extra $100 per person or we could drive ourselves there. We decided to save $500 and drive ourselves. The rafting entrance point was at Glen Canyon Dam. It was in Page, Az 2 1/2 hrs away. Luckily, the drive took us the length of Desert View Drive. It is a scenic 23 mile drive along the southern rim of the canyon. It had beautiful views of the canyon. Colorado River When we arrived at the Colorado River Discovery center we checked in, picked up our lunch and boarded our bus. The bus took us to the base of Glen Canyon Dam where we boarded our rafts. The temperature forecast for the day was 102 degrees. It was going to be a hot 3 hrs! We spent a nice afternoon boating down the canyon. At one point we pulled up to a beach & disembarked. We walked a short distance to see petroglyphs on the canyon wall. We also waded in the water. It was 47 degrees this close to the dam. It was cold, but it sure felt good! On the way home we got to see the sunset over the canyon from the Desert View Drive. When we got back to our lodge we went to the pizza pub & relaxed.
