We visited the Garden of the Gods and hiked the Siamese Twins Trail. The boys really enjoyed climbing in the rocks. Finally, they could go all over the red rocks! The Siamese Twins is a rock formation with 2 towers and a keyhole that looks out on Pikes Peak. It is an interesting formation. The trails are also used for horseback riding. We had a few hours left in the day so we decided to conquer Pikes Peak. The scenery was beautiful. It was a clear day & we could see most of the 14,000 ft up. It was cold up there, especially after having been in 100 + degree weather all week. There were pockets of snow and we got out to play in them. We also saw a baby bighorn sheep and lots of gophers. The gophers were sitting at different places next to the road watching us it was disconcerting.

We went on an all day whitewater rafting trip in the Arkansas River. This rafting trip is ranked in the top ten white water trips nationally. The morning part of the trip was 5 miles through Bighorn Canyon with class II & III rapids. Then we had lunch on the beach. After lunch we converted our boat to an oar boat and let our guide do most of the paddling since we were going to head into class IV rapids. Amazing! We spent the day riding through the mountains first to Silverton on a bus then back to Durango on a train. The entire trip lasted 7 hours. We boarded a bus in Durango and rode 1 1/2 hrs through the San Juan Mountains to the mining town of Silverton, Co. We had 2 hrs to walk around in Silverton. Our 1st stop was lunch in the Handlebar Saloon. Then we walked around looking at the shops and museums. The area was beautiful. The city only had one paved road. ...

We visited Mesa Verde National Park today. We did the auto self guided tour. We drove into the park, looked through the museum and watched the park video. Then we saw the Spruce Tree House, drove the Mesa Loop and looked at several unearthed houses. Our day ended at Sunset Point overlooking Cliff Palace, Balcony House and Fire Temple. After we finished there we drove to Durango, Co to our hotel for the night.
