We made it to the four corners monument at 3:00. It cost $5 a person to get in. It is a monument run by the Navajo Parks Department. They had constructed an open air patio that had each state imprinted in the concrete. There was a line of people waiting to take their picture in the center. We joined the line and got the ladies behind us to take our picture. Then we browsed the stands around the monument filled with Navajo merchandise.

We were driving to the 4 corners monument from Page, Az. We were on a 2 lane highway going through an isolated part of the Navajo reservation. There was a semi trailer lying on its side totally perpendicular across both lanes of the highway. The land was impassable on either side of the road. We enjoyed seeing the north rim. It had a very different feel than the south rim. It was much more remote, about 45 miles from the nearest town. Since it was at a higher elevation it was cooler. It was in the 70's, which was the coolest weather we'd had all week! There were also pine trees and grass everywhere. It had an alpine feel to it. We slept in this morning. The heat yesterday took a lot out of us. We ate breakfast around 9:00 am. We were going to try to rent bicycles, but found that we would have to go all the way to the visitors center at the front of the park. So instead we boarded a bus and west to headed to Hermits Rest. There are 9 bus stops on the Hermits Rest Trail. You could walk the entire length or take a bus out to the end. We ended up taking a bus the entire way. The round trip ...

The day began with a full breakfast at the Maswik Food Court. We had a smooth water rafting excursion booked with Colorado River Discovery. The rafting location was 2 1/2 hours away so we had a bit of a grove ahead of us.
