(DAY 7)
Kia Ora!
Once again we were greeted from sleep by the sound of rain! We headed straight to Reception so Kie could book his bungy. Upon arrival we were told they had spaces available for today which was quite a surprise! Naturally Kie booked up straight away and Sophie settled for a spectator spot as she had no intention of hanging upside down! We quickly got showered and dressed before heading into town where Kie checked in for his jump. Before long we were boarding the bus with about 18 others (all of whom were crazy toons like Kie!) When we got there we were told the heaviest person would jump first, looking around we quickly realised this person would be Kie .. eeekk! All harnessed and ready to go we got into the cable car which shuttled us across to Nevis, the highest bungy jump in New Zealand at 134m, it looked amazing and luckily the rain had subsided. Kie was strapped at the ankles and taken through to be attached to the bungy while Sophie waited anxiously with the camera! All strapped up and ready to jump, Kie was led to the edge where he didn't hang around - as soon as the countdown was finished he was gone and began his 8.5 second freefall. From up above all you could hear was Kie shouting "Yeeeoooooooowwwww" the new phrase we have picked up from our Oz Experience bus driver, Disco! It was amazing! Even to watch, and made Sophie very jealous! Out of the three lads Kie was the only one to calmly walk up to the edge, look at the camera and jump! The lad to follow Kie got to the edge and said he couldn't do it, before jumping! And the third lad could barely talk and stood shaking. Buzzing from head to toe, Kie waited for his DVD and photos to be printed before we got back on the bus and headed back down into town.
Having not eaten all day, we walked straight to the famous Fergburger - if you haven't heard of it, you need to google it! It's a small burger joint but serves HUGE burgers and is known worldwide, despite only having the one outlet. On our travels we have been recommended going there on many occasions whenever people hear that we're going to New Zealand! Although we'd heard the hype, we hadn't quite realised how good these burgers would be, until we had one for ourselves. Kie went big and had the Big Al - the biggest burger they do consisting of; a double serving of prime New Zealand beef (1/2lb), lashings of bacon, a whole lotta cheese, 2 eggs, lettuce, tomato, red onion, relish and a big wad of aioli while Sophie had a slightly smaller, but still huge, Tropical Swine; prime New Zealand beef, American streaky bacon, edam cheese, pineapple, lettuce, tomato, red onion, aioli and tomato relish! We were pleased to have not eaten until now and the burgers definitely did their job, we were both beaten and had to leave a quarter for an evening snack!
We spent the rest of the day uploading our hundreds of photos and getting up to date on the blogs which took us into the evening and kept us out of the rain!
