(DAY 13)
Kia Ora!
We got up extra early and headed along to the Bonisch holiday household to watch the World Club Challenge rugby league game whilst enjoying some proper English tea courtesy of Lauren, who is a big Yorkshire Tea fan and has it imported in specially! Lauren also treated us to some poached eggs, BBQ cooked bacon and cheesy loaf - which went down a treat! Afterwards we all headed to the beach where we planned to go out on the kayaks to a nearby bay. However, when we arrived at the beach, Lauren's dad, Paul, was arriving back from an early morning fishing trip on his boat with Matt and Kate (Lauren's brother and his girlfriend). Paul offered to take us out in his boat on a tour of the Abel Tasman National Park, we spent about an hour in the boat looking at all the famous landmarks and hearing about the history of the National Park.
We spent the rest of the afternoon laying on the beach playing Frisbee, waboba (a ball designed to bounce of the water) and Kie and Louis even went out in the kayaks while the girls enjoyed the sunshine. After a quick shower to wash off the sand and saltwater, we said our goodbyes to our more than generous hosts and headed to our next destination: Picton via Nelson and along the Queen Charlotte Drive, as recommended by Lauren and Louis, which took us along the top of the stunning Marlborough Sounds.
Despite the somewhat winding roads to Picton, we arrived safe and sound at around 7pm so we found the cheapest campsite we could find and made our way there. As we were making dinner Sophie had a bit of a giggle at a little girl who was in the kitchen with her mum. In Maori 'Kai' (pronounced the same as 'Kie') means 'food' and the little girl was shouting to her brother "Kai's ready"! It seems 'Kie' gets everywhere in New Zealand with plants and streams named after him! We ate our quick meal of soup and bread before hitting our beds for the night.
