Soongies' Great Adventure
Our last day in Dubai consisted of: - going up to the hotel rooftop pool so Kate could dry her swimmers in the sunshine; - going to Dubai Mall (again) - Calvin got a hair cut - it was looking a bit flat on top and his wife has been pointing out some greys; - saw the Dubai Dinosaur in The Souk in Dubai Mall; - eating Chinese and Thai food (again) at the foodcourt; - and eating more ice-cream! We were due to fly out of Dubai to Prague at 7:30 pm from Terminal 2 on a Smartwings flight. We had read some horror stories about this airline - delays of 8 hours, poor service, flights changed last minute, dirty and old planes - we weren't expecting much. Also, there is a limit of 15 kg per person on this airline with a charge of 7 euros per kg over - our bags combined were at least 35 kg so we were bracing ourselves for forking out lots for the extra weight. After checking out of our hotel and catching the metro to the Airport Terminal 1 stop, we were expecting to catch the free shuttle bus to get to Terminal 2 (as per the airport website) however apparently this didn't exist! The lady we asked said there is no shuttle and the only way to get to Terminal 2 is by taxi which would take between 25-50 minutes - this sent Kate into a sweat! We found a taxi (nice guy) at the departures drop off who said he'll take us to Terminal 2 even though he's not supposed to pick passengers up at the Departures point. It only took 10 minutes to drive there - Kate's sweat levels started to subside by this point. At check in, we were dreading the weighing of our bags - a total of 35 kg. Fortunately, they didn't really care and didn't charge us anything! There was an angry family at another counter arguing with the staff about paying for extra baggage - we think the lady didn't want that to happen to her too! After a meal of KFC and McDonald's, we boarded our flight (almost on time) and were quite pleased with Smartwings! We had an exit row, we got food included (lots of food and good food too!), no entertainment but that didn't matter, and an extra seat next to us. The only downside to this flight (which wasn't Smartwing's fault) were the 3 drunk and irritatingly annoying Canadians sitting in the row behind us - one of which was obnoxiously loud and thought the whole plane needed to hear how awesome he was (wasn't) and also listen to his music blaring from his phone. The flight attendant had to tell them several times to keep the noise down - particularly as other passengers were trying sleep on a night flight. Overall, Smartwings impressed us and even landed in Prague pretty close to on time. We thought they almost lost our baggage but eventually the bags found their way out on to the conveyor belt - almost the last bags off the plane. The weather was a bit different to Dubai - it was -1 degrees! A friendly Uber driver drove us to our AirBnb - showing us some sights along the way (including Prague Castle and Charles Bridge).
