Soongies' Great Adventure
Today eventuated into Dubai shopping day! Weather is mild but sunny - certainly not sweaty like Mombasa! First thing this morning we went to the supermarket over the road to get some breakfast supplies – cereal, milk and plastic bowls. We caught the metro to Dubai Mall. Our accommodation is 2 minutes from the closest metro station (Union Station) and is so convenient because it's a junction between the 2 metro lines. The metro is amazing – so clean, so efficient and pretty cheap too. We're not sure if we are particularly amazed by the public transport system as we are used to matatus in Africa - just a little bit different! Dubai Mall is huge and very impressive - it's the world's largest shopping mall! We wandered past the free section aquarium and saw the fountains doing the performance to Arabian music. We also saw the Burj Khalifa (the tallest building in the world standing at 828 metres). We wandered around the mall looking for food but everything was pretty expensive – the massive food court was more in our price range (first time having rice noodles since we left!). Later on we got the metro back to the hotel and then got the free shuttle to the Dubai Outlet Mall – about a 1 hour drive going via lots of different hotels. Our mission – to find thick jackets for the European winter. After an hour and a half of digging through racks and racks of XL and XXL jackets – mission was accomplished. Again a food court came to the rescue to provide us with our dinner – shawarma and chips.
