Soongies' Great Adventure
From the deep caves to the high peaks - it was skiing today! Calvin was so excited, Kate wasn't so sure! It was good to get some more use out of our skiing clothes. It was about a 1.5 hour drive to the Vogel ski resort from Ljubljana (passing by a very reflective Lake Bohinj). It was only €30 each for a day pass which we thought was quite reasonable. We went up to the top in a cable car and then arranged rental of the boots and skis. We went to what we thought was going to be a nice easy slope for Kate to manage – as soon as we got there, Kate turned back as it was too steep for her! Off to the kids slope then for Kate (Calvin provided some company for Kate on the kids slope). It was a nice, short, gentle slope with a magic carpet right there so no effortful treks back up the hill. Kate stayed on the kids slope for a while while Calvin went off and did some of the more difficult slopes. Calvin found a nice easy beginners slope on his travels which Kate did a couple of times but then decided she preferred the kids’ slope. We stopped for lunch and had pizza at one of the restaurants. While Kate went back onto the kids’ slope for bit, Calvin went to the top (1800m high) and tried to do every single run available. He managed most of them before the lifts started closing. The runs were fun to do and some were a little challenging. Snow was great and fairly fresh and natural – on the peaks all along the alps, the snow looked like gelato – a really wonderful place to experience the Slovenian alps and have fun skiing too! Kate then had a hot chocolate and took in the beautiful view from the café whilst Calvin continued his skiing. No falls from either of us! We took the cable car back down again at 4:00 (when the slopes close) and then drove home (with sore feet and legs), stopping by at the supermarket to get supplies for our stir fry dinner. Another tick for Ljubljana – there was quite a number of fresh vegetables to choose from!

kentishclan I'd give you guys permission to live in Slovenia. It will give us an excuse to go back again (and a place to stay!) Good to see it still has the same safe, welcoming ambience as when we were there. I heard that it got a bit 'tricky' there for a while with all the refugees and closing borders and 'anti non-nationals' etc but the people are so great I knew it wouldn't stay that way for long. Don't you feel healthier just being there? Apparently gets nice and warm in summer so you get the best of all worlds (watersports in summer, bike trailing in autumn, hiking in spring and skiing in winter)
soongies If we don't end up staying here, we definitely want to come back. Perfect place to be in! Feeling healthy just by knowing Ljubljana is the greenest city in Europe!
