Soongies' Great Adventure
It was a pretty early start this morning. We were out of the house by 7:30 on the hunt for somewhere to eat breakfast before we caught our flight to Budapest. We wandered around for ages but nothing was open at that hour… it was a very different Prague to what we had seen. After wandering for a while we ended up back at a café very close to our accommodation for breakfast. We then caught an Uber to the airport. Prague airport was very efficient, clean and well organised. The Czech Airlines flight to Budapest was on a very small aeroplane – the smallest commercial flight we have ever been on. It was soooo cold when we landed. It was about -2 degrees but it felt colder. There were lots of announcements over the PA system at Budapest airport to use official airport transport to get to your accommodation – it seemed like Ubers are not really a good option here. So we booked a mini bus transfer for $40 return (quite reasonable really), which dropped us on the street of our Airbnb on the Pest side of the city – it just took us a bit of time to actually find where the apartment was – the numbers were ocnfusing. Kate stood on the street with all the luggage while Calvin walked / jogged up and down the street trying to find it. We met our host, Alexandra, and she showed us inside the apartment – we were very impressed with it! It even had a washing machine which we used later that night. We wandered to the supermarket close by to get some stuff for breakfast and then later in the afternoon we wandered to the Christmas food markets (of course, what else would we do?!). There was another ice skating rink here but only a couple of kids were on it. The market food is a bit more expensive than Prague, but also more gourmet. Most of the food averaged $5-10. We came across some nice looking food – Calvin ordered chicken and vegetables with a potato rosti and Kate ordered pork goulash with a potato rosti. We assumed it would cost max $10 each. Wrong! The meals cost $30 each! But it was too late by the time we realised. We thought that maybe we had been ripped off so we asked another couple how much they paid for theirs and it was similar but they did comment to us that they were surprised how expensive it was. Oh well – back to Geraldton prices it was! They did give us a 'free' dessert with dinner, which was pretty yummy – it was a bit like a ricotta cake - called rétes, a traditional Hungarian strudel consisting of pastry and sweet cheese (but can be filled with sour cherry or nuts). While we were eating our dinner (and thinking about how expensive it was), we saw the light show on St Stephen's basilica, which was impressive. Kate was too full to finish her dinner but of course we couldn’t chuck it because it was too pricey so we got a doggy bag. By this point, it felt like 8:30pm and it was freezing! Calvin couldn’t feel his balls and Kate couldn’t feel her toes! We quickly walked back to our apartment and were so relieved it was warm inside. And we realised it was only 6:15 pm. So we did our washing and had a relaxing, warm evening in our nice apartment.

kentishclan OK guys... seriously! Who wrote this one? I can't quite work out which would be funnier to have written the "couldn't feel his balls" comment! You're heading into pricey food territory now. Unless you're doing a quick trip to Croatia your days of $10 meals may well be behind you. Good idea for the supermarket brekky deal - its a big $$ saver. Might also want to look into rolls, ham, cheese and rocket to make some lunches and then save the $$ for when you find something just too awesome to walk past :)
Amanda Pretty sure Kate write this one ! Sounds very cold . It's been 41 degrees here today !!
soongies Bang on! Kate wrote this one. It is so cold - some temps above 0 would be nice!! Enjoy the heat!
