Hej hej,
Kram

Hi all
Today we've been to Te Matatini National Kapa Haka Festival 09 over at the Baypark stadium (where we watched speedway before).
It was really cool.
Was a bit worried because it was cancelled yesterday due to the weather, it was pissing down and gale winds. But today it was cloudy but nice :)
So there were several teams competing in well Kapa Haka (maori modern day performance and song).
For example:
Waiata-a-tira - group dynamics singing, examples being chorals and hymns
Poi - where the dancer (mainly female) manipulates a ball attached to a length of cord exhibiting the full ethos of grace, beauty, timing, precision and allure
Waiata-a-ringa - a song where specific hand movements portray different meanings and combined create a story
Haka - the war dance
If you want to know more just have a look at the website www.festival.tematatini.co.nz
It was really cool and just wow. I can imagine that when the Europeans came to settle down here and they were met by loads of maoris doing the haka they got scared. It is a bit scary, especially with the make up and tattoos.
It was quite funny though, one of the teams had a massive white guy in the team, he looked so out of place, plus he was really white and ginger!
So glad we got the chance to see this though.
Took some pictures, the quality is not the best, but it'll do. I also tried to film a bit so you could see and hear it and well it turned out ok.
I'm off all day and night today, although they called me this morning and wanted me to work tonight even though I told them yesterday I had plans today, but I said no. Tonight we're having a nice dinner, then we'll watch a movie and have some popcorn :)
