We took a bus and two ferry's and 12 hours later, we arrived in Koh Tao, we hears good things about the island so were pretty buzzing to look around. Not that many people visit Koh Tao compared to the other islands, its almost like a kept secret between travellers and divers! (meant to have some of the best diving in the world)...The Island is fairly small but so nice, the beach and town were all inkeeping with island life, nothing western about this place at all, its nice to get away from, its paradise.
We checked in to our hotel, just off the beach and up a hill, so we had great views from our balcony, we hadnt had a balcony in weeks so it was nice. We headed down to the beach the next morning, it was so hot we had to sunbath in the sea, its so shallow for miles so everyone just chills in it. One bad thing about this island is, you cant hire sun loungers, only a few nice hotels on the front had them, we asked to pay but of course they said no, So the day after we just walked through one of the hotels put our stuff on the loungers and pretended we were staying at the hotel, to be fair we ate lunch and had drinks there everyday. The morning after we sat down to have breakfast at the hotel, someone came over and asked if we were staying at Palm Leaf, we thought our cover was blown, i quickly mumbled Yes, he asked which room and Marcus said 113...he then went off and came back with menu's for the FREE breakfast, we quickly said we didnt want breakfast and just ordered some shakes, phewwww we got away with it.
The weather was starting to turn, the wind was picking up and the grey clouds were coming, little did we know, we had over a week of tropical storms on the way!. Later that evening we met up with Christa, who is my friend Alexs friend, we met in Vietnam, we had dinner at our fave beach lounge Fizz, and headed out round the bars for the night. We were all starting to get pretty drunk by 12ish, we went down to Cancun Bar and danced on a small table on the beach, out of no where a huge gust of wind came, shortly after heavy rain and thunder storms, we all danced for a bit in the storm, till the bar cut the music and we alll had to head for cover... it took 10 mins to get home, running up a flooded hill wasnt the easiest thing.
The next day we woke up very hungover, but it was SongKran, the Thai new year so we had to get out and go see what was going on, it was mad, just huge water fights, all the beach bars were throwing 24 hour partys, we downed a few drinks and joined in, went down some water slides into the sea and danced in the rain/buckets of water over the heads, we started to get a bit cold once the sun went in and we were still hungover so we headed back for an early night.
Unfortunrty the storms continuted for days...which had ruined our plans of site seeing and trips..and as we loved the island, we have booked to go back after Koh Samui.
