We arrived in Singapore to a nice tropical storm; it was the worst storm we had seen over the trip, I can't even describe it as rain, more as a bucket of water being thrown over us, with strong winds and lightning. Poor Marcus had to run across the road to the ATM as we had no Singapore dollar on us. We got a taxi to the hotel, it was a few miles out of the city centre because Singapore is expensive for hotels, the hotel was nice but the rooms were small we could barely fit in with our bags. That night we got a taxi and asked the taxi driver to take us somewhere the locals eat, he took us to a place called "La Pat Sat" which was about 15 minutes away, at first we were a little annoyed the taxi fare was at 20 dollars, how ever once we got inside saw the price of the food then tried it…We thought we had hit the jackpot!!...the cheapest food we had had in Asia, it cost around 2.50 per meal and it was amazing. La Pat Sat is a open top food court, with around 30 stalls all selling different Asian food….we ate there every night.
The next day we started using the bus it was so cheap and easy once we got the hang of it, we headed over to the Singapore zoo, one of the best zoo's in the world, and wow it really was, it was all set out in a way, that the animals were out in the open and not in cages, it was a little uneasy at times being around certain animals as it seemed they would escape and attack you!!!. We got to feed and meet some Kangaroo's, another animal I can now knock of the list of interacting with!.
We went to explore Singapore properly, it's the nicest city we had been to, its such a clean, modern city, we headed up to one of its sky bars to have some drinks, of course being ex students and on a budget we looked for one that did a happy hour!....the view was spectacular I never got bored of looking at it, oh and it started raining so we had to stay longer, shame.
On the last day, we really walked around the place, it's a pretty small city, we tried to sunbath at the pool for an hour or two but they really was no sun so we gave up with that and headed in to look around one last time, we decided we had to go up the famous Marina Bay Boat hotel, which literally has an architectural design of a boat on top of three buildings, Google it, its crazy. It has the most amazing infinity pool and bar on the top but that was just in use for hotel guests, how ever the area we were allowed to walk around was huge and you got a great 360 view of Singapore, the bar played music which added to the nice atmosphere of the sunset and the view. We left and of course went to La Pat Sat for one last dinner then to a bar for happy hour…it was starting to dawn on us that the most amazing trip of our life was coming towards the end, but we were excited to get to Sydney and see more of the world.
