I woke up at about 8am with a bit of a sore head after the previous night. The weather was pretty s***ty, grey, cold and drizzly. We had breakfast and then had the choice to walk or grab a bus to the next checkpoint. Due to the weather, my head ache and the fact the walk was just along the same road that the bus would take we opted for the bus ride. Papas obviously took the bus with us as well and actually left the half of the group who wanted to walk to walk on their own. Once we got to the checkpoint we just waited around for the others to arrive which took a good couple of hours as team pat was involved in the walk. Once the arrived we had lunch. So bored of the gloupy grey soup by now I didn't eat much of it. An awkward moment arose when we were told this was the last day we would have the cooks with us so the group organized a group tip for them. Looking in the wallet we only had 70 soles left, the group suggested everyone put in 20 each as a minimum. With our heads hanging low we said we could only afford 10 each. It was horrible. Especially after we´d been out the previous night and now saying we couldn't afford it. We set off after lunch and Papas said we could get out bags carried to the hostel for 5 soles each. After saying we couldn't afford more of a tip we had to man up and carry our bags the rest of the way. The afternoon was just a nice 3 hour trek along a railway to Machu Picchu town. All along the trek Machu Picchu could be seen up in the mountains so it was nice to be actually visibly getting closer to it. We arrived in town and got taken to our hostel and was pleasantly surprised when it turned out it was actually quite nice. A double room with nice big comfy beds and an en suite bathroom. We went down for dinner which was all paid for in a restaurant and had a really nice chicken dish. We stayed there until about 8ish before heading back to the hostel for some shut eye. When we got back however there was a world mother's day parade which sounded like it was taking place in the hall. Tomorrow was Machu Picchu day and was an extremely early start.
