The second month has already passed, already for two months in China. Life in Jinan is becoming more normal and I am getting used to the Chinese way of life.
To be honest, it feels more like two weeks than months that I'm here. Time is going so fast that every week feels like a day. That is probably because we have classes six days a week and don't have a lot of free time. Having classes during the week from 8 to 17 and then going out eating for about two hours, there's not much time left to do anything else. I am also having the English corner two or three times per week, which I really like to do.
Meanwhile it is getting colder here as well and luckily they turned on the heating in our apartment this week. Outside it was about 4 degrees and still the heating in our building wasn't working, they always turn it on half of November. No matter the weather. Unfortunately the heating in the university is still not working, so also teachers are complaining that it's too cold in the classrooms and all the time we're having our jackets on. The temperature in the classroom is about the same as outside, which isn't nice if you have a four hour lecture and just sit the whole time.
This Friday I had a job interview for a second job, again to become an English teacher. It is in a different company and for students who are in high school. During the job interview I couldn't really talk to the owner of the company because ironically he doesn't speak English. So there was one teacher who was translating from English to Chinese and vice versa. They also asked me to give a 15 minute lecture right away. I wasn't prepared for that and didn't really know what to do. So I went in there and just held a little introduction and was talking about some general things like sports and hobbies.
Luckily they said that it was good and that I was hired. So I will have a one-hour class every week, every Friday. The content of the lecture doesn't really matter, I can choose any topic I like and I have to prepare my own classes. So that is good because I can do whatever I want, as long as I teach them English.
I also had my first exam in China, about the Chinese culture. It wasn't very difficult, plus we could use the slides that she printed for us. So it was a bit of a strange exam, but it is Chinese culture so it is not very import for my degree.
