The problems with studying at this university are solved, the teacher is happy with a photo of us and I got my first salary in China.
The first lecture 'CNC Machining Technology' was again a rehearsal of what we had already done in Finland. Luckily next week we will go to the lab for the practical part of the class, which is basically till the end of the semester. That's something new so that will probably be interesting.
One of the teachers yesterday asked us about our studying and if everything is going well. We told her about the problem that we had with the library and with not having a student card and student number. She said that she would talk to the woman from the international office because it is strange that we're not getting that even though we are actually studying at this university. Today we got a message from the international office that she will make a student card, library card and that we will get a student number. It is good that we're getting it now but I don't understand why we didn't get it at first.
I can't really say much about the second lecture; it was a normal lecture with a teacher who's very interested in literally everything that we have to say. He's a happy teacher and even happier after we agreed to take a photo together with him. So yeah, as you can see on the photo, that is our whole class. It's just the three of us who're studying Mechanical Engineering in English.
Right after classes I went to the English corner. On Wednesday's there are the elementary level students who're having their speaking and pronunciation practice. This is also a two hour 'class' in which groups are formed and each 'teacher' has a small group of students. Then the task is to just have a conversation, listen and talk with the students about everything that's been brought up. It doesn't matter about what, as long as it is in English. The task of the teacher is to correct them and to explain words, sentences, sayings and so on.
Again the group was very interested in the Netherland, Finland, traveling and the cultural differences between Europe or the west and China. One of the other things that we were talking about was food, mainly Chinese food. And I found out that there are worse things to eat than what I've already tried. It is for example possible to eat cat and dog in the south of China, not here, alive mice can be eaten for the fancier and rotten ostrich eggs, snake blood and filled pig's gall bladder are on the menu as well. I still have a few months to try Chinese food, but not all of it sounds that appealing though.
Very nice was that I got my first Chinese salary from the English corner today. I remember having lots of problems with the English language when I was in high school and even during my studies in The Netherlands. Right now I am getting paid to teach English to others in the English corner and soon I'll have my first actual lecture in which I will be teaching English to a whole class. I'm getting a bit nervous already but I'm sure it will be a great experience. I am, of course, also looking forward to it.
