Saturday 21st July
Today we arrived with great anticipation at Fraser Range Station and you wouldn't want to know they are in severe drought so no water and no Internet or phone connections and then to cap it all off Ross had trouble with the satellite dish. Only water was in the amenities and 5 minute timed showers for $1.00. We didn't know this until after we had paid for the meal and for two nights. However the Gods were smiling down on us as I looked at our receipt and found that we had only been charged for one night so we decided to move on to Norseman 102km west in the morning. It wouldn't have been such a problem but our tanks in the caravan were empty and we needed water.
Sunday 22nd July
Here we are at Norseman Caravan Park for one night the dearest one so far $39.00 per night, but there is an IGA open till noon and a servo with swap and Go gas as we had used one cylinder, which isn't bad going for three weeks.
Norseman has that outback look about it where I feel I could get a pressure hose and give everything a good hose down to freshen it up, but I am afraid that the high pressure hose would do nothing to help most of the broken and dilapidated homes that we have seen here, but it has two good service stations, the people we have met so far are very pleasant, we could do our surprisingly very reasonably priced shopping, we could fill our water tanks, Ross can watch the bulldogs this afternoon, I can use the Internet which is very fast so I can keep in touch and we replaced the empty gas cylinder ($27.00). We just finished listening to John Grisham's "The Rooster Bar". We both loved the story. I had read the book previously but it is surprising how different it seemed listening to it instead of reading it. Now to the task of finding a story just as good.
July 26th
Arrived at Merredin today on the way to Geraldton. Free unlimited WiFi, quiet and clean so looking good for two nights. We left Kalgoorlie morning of the 25th after spending two days there. Interesting place, but we were disappointed when the bus tour we had booked, who were supposed to ring us if the tour was going ahead, failed to ring us in time to book another day at the park and to get to where the tour departed in time. So we left after not seeing as much as we wanted to. The park was great from the perspective of meals as they had a food hall for the mine FIFO employees who live there and for $20 each for the evening meal we could eat there as well. Eat as much as you like. Sweets included.
