Today we got picked up at 10.30 by John and Ross from Bush-tucker tours. After picking up several others we were at the first cellar door by 11.00! Evans and Tate were our first port of call where we tried 10 (yes, 10!) different wines including sparkling (White and pink) and an amazing port (which is no longer allowed to be called port!), which was nothing like the horrible stuff we're often made to down at the rugby club dinner! Our second vineyard was Knotting Hill which had the most beautiful setting with a lake and acres of vines as far as the eye could see. After another 10 tasters here, we were given lunch consisting of smoked kangaroo (yummy), bush turkey, local beef and lots of anti pasti from the local area. After lunch John brought out some dessert for a lucky few. Witchety Grubs! Ewwwww! Ian had one - double ewwww! He says he probably wouldn't try another! We then went on to The Grove which specialised in liqueurs. Girls, our new cocktail should be made with strawberry liqueur and Ginger ale - delicious! We tried Turkish delight, limoncello cheesecake (made with lemons and white chocolate), and had a mixed shot of chocolate, butterscotch and cream (see photo!). Yum!! After this we visited cheese and chocolate factories (no prizes for guessing which of these was my favourite!) before stopping at a fourth cellar door (Sandalfords - famous in the neighbouring Swan Valley for putting on massive gigs with big names). We had another eight tastings here before moving on to the Duckstein brewery for beer tasting! We tried six different brews from pale ale and wheat beer to darker beers such as their winter ale. All with some local cheese and crackers. Phew! A quiet evening ensued as you can imagine! It was a great tour, very relaxed with very little of the snobbery that can go along with these things sometimes. Which is probably a good thing too as I've got a minging cold at the mo and can't smell a thing so glad I wasn't quizzed on such matters as the aroma of the stuff we were drinking! That said we found some wines we absolutely loved and even bought a few bottles for consumption during the last few days we have in Oz. Thanks Rob, Em and Henry for a fab day!
