We went on the Monorail to KLCC (city centre) to have a look at the Petronas Towers today. They were pretty impressive! There is quite a nice park beside the towers which we took a wander round and we also had a mosey round the shopping centre there. Not much to look at but it was air conditioned (sometimes that's all you want!) and it had a fairly extensive food court. I tried to order my fav Malaysian (of Indian origin) dish here (roti canai) but I got given a plate of rice, shrimp, chicken and beef!! Not sure how that happened!! Still, it was very nice for a shared lunch with Howellsey! I got my roti canai later anyway from an amazing little Indian style restaurant near our hostel and also tried their tandoori chicken and garlic naan bread which was great! We also had a dander round the 'covered markets' which had every knock off item you can think of, and Howellsey and I were encouraged to check out 'Louis Vuitton' handbags, 'Converse' clothing, 'Gucci' perfume and a full range of up to date feature films miraculously available on DVD! On the other hand we also came across a haberdasher on the edge of this market which sells cross-stitch sets for next to nothing (I think it's quite a popular pastime here). Love a bit of cross-stitch! We also went to the Central Markets to do a bit of shopping (see pic for entrance). It's quite a cool market with more traditional wares than the Covered Market including batik fabrics and artwork, clothing, and various other arts and crafts. Even better, in Malaysia, and this market in particular, you're generally left alone to browse and shop, the products have fixed prices (although haggling for larger or numerous items would be okay). This suits me well - don't think it'll be like this in Thailand! We have decided to stay in KL one more day so we can take a trip to the Batu caves tomorrow. Then we're off to the Cameron Highlands for a few days!
