We left fairly early today to head to the bus station in Singapore. I must admit I wasn't expecting much but it was the best bus ever!! It was like first class on a plane (see pic!). The seats fully reclined, there were individual TVs to watch films on and it had great air con. Don't get this on the national express! All this for under £20, and this was the more expensive one. Only problem we had was when I forgot to bring my departure slip to border control! They escorted me to the bus to get it - scary! After a quick stop at a service station we drove through miles of rubber and palm oil plantations before arriving in Kuala Lumpur. We had to haggle with a taxi driver (despite the sign on the side of the car stating 'this is a metered taxi - haggling is illegal') and after he got lost at least three times, ran some red lights and did a u-turn on red at a major junction, he eventually stopped to ask a local where the hostel was and got us there in the end. it's a great hostel, very friendly and organised and the room is very roomy (to quote Emily!) and clean. We took off for a bit of exploring and wandered round Central Market and had tea at a Nyonya restaurant where I had beef rendang (well, you can't go to Malaysia and not try it!) and Ian had a chicken stew with veges served with a sambal sauce on the side. It was delicious and I'm looking forward to trying more Malaysian food over the next few weeks. The hostel were having a little Oktoberfest party so we had a few beers there before heading to bed. Free wireless at this hostel too so we will be able to keep in touch a bit better over the next few days. Whoop! Also, hope my girls are having a great time in Budapest. Can't wait to hear all about it when I get back!
