We had the kids up bright and early so we could leave by 6:45am to get to Monkey Mia by 7:45am. Monkey Mia is renowned around the world for a place people can come and enjoy close encounters with dolphins. Select female dolphins are offered small amounts of fish during the morning up until noon. A couple of lucky tourists are chosen out of the crowd at each feeding to go in the water and feed the dolphins. Unfortunately none of us were chosen, but it was still a worthwhile experience for us all. We got to get very close to dolphins and saw them in their natural habitat. We also got to use the Monkey Mia's resorts facilities for the day. These included pool, spa, showers, cafe and beaches. It was great value for $17 for the family. We had a picnic lunch there and headed off in the early afternoon to check out Peron Homestead. This was a self guided tour around a very once large sheep station that operated up until 1991 when the lease expired and it was turned into National Park. It was kind of sad to see old buildings such as the shearing shed falling down. The once cleared landscape is now covered in bush and bracken and probably unrecognisable to those who worked at the station in years gone by. From Peron Homestead we headed to Little Lagoon for a swim. What a great spot this is for families to spend time together. The water is crystal clear. After this we checked out some private beaches before heading back to the Nanga Resort for the evening. The plan for tomorrow is to pack up and head to a free camp on the beach south of Canarvon.
