The weather has come in really nasty, lots of rain and strong winds. Despite this we decided it was time to get out and do something. We all headed to Fremantle. The girls and kids went to the Fremantle market whilst Sven and I did a tour of the Fremantle prison. In 1850 the prison was built to accommodate convicts as they arrived as a labour force to establish infrastructure for the Swan River Colony. Fremantle prison is the largest convict built structure in WA. It remained a maximum security prison until it was decommissioned in 1991. The last person to be hung in the prison was in 1964. The last person to escape was the "postcard bandit" Brenden Abbott in 1989. He is still incarcerated in Queensland. From Fremantle we headed back to Singleton for the evening. We plan to pack up and continue heading north tomorrow.
