It's been hard to keep the blog updated as we haven't had very good phone reception at the places we have stopped recently. I have lots of photos to upload so hopefully I will be able to do that in the next few days. On Friday the 22nd of May we left Coronation Bay and headed Kalbarri. There we visited the information centre and then headed to the nearby Kalbarri National Park. The park an area of 186,000 hectares. The area consists of two different landscapes. Inland there are river gorges with rock formations. On the coast there are massive cliffs that plummet to the ocean below. The whole area is covered sparsely with scrubby trees. We thought we would take in the main tourist walks. We were able to leave the caravan and the gate entrance to the park. The first walk was Natures Window. Form the top of the gorge there is a window in the rock formation, when you look through it you view the Murchison River below that runs through the gorge. It is quite spectacular. We also did two smaller walks, West Loop Lookout and Ross Graham River Trial. These walks give amazing views of the gorge as it plunges 150 meters down to the Murchison River. It was pretty hot around 26 degrees and the flies were thick. Mackayla cracked them big time with the flies. She is a five star girl and this was not her thing. Charlie and Felicity did well with the hiking as did Mackayla despite saying she hated it. The kids were all tuckered out that night. It was getting late when we left the National Park. We headed about 50km up the road and free camped the night on the Murchison River at Galena Bridge rest area. A really nice spot to stop for the night. The following day we headed north toward Denham. We wanted to free camp for a couple of days but you have to drive all the way to Denham to buy a permit and then drive back down the coast to camp. Instead we opted for a caravan park 52 km south of Denham called Nanga View Resort. It is right on the beach. We arrived around lunch time and were all in the pool about 10 minutes later. Mackayla was in her element now. That afternoon we took a drive in to Denham to have a look around. Whilst there we went to the tourist information centre and purchased a ticket to Monkey Mia for the following day. Monkey Mia is famously known for being a place where people can experience close encounters with dolphins. The kids were very excited. We had a quiet and early night as we had to be up and gone by 6:45am to get to the first dolphin feeding at 7:45am.
