Amazing first few days in NZ. Everyone on the kiwi bus is fun and friendly, and we've made lots of friends already. We've done so much that it feels like we've been here for ages! Day 1 we arrived in Auckland. Me and Low went for a walk around the area in the afternoon, then had a nice meal and early night ready to hop on the kiwi bus in the morning. Day 2 we headed to Hot Water Beach where we stayed the night, stopping on the way for a 30 minute walk over to the beautiful Cathedral Cove where apparently the opening scene from Narnia was filmed. Later on in the night we headed down to the beach for low tide which was at 21:40 to dig a hole (who am I kidding, me and Low did no digging. We left that to the lads) in the sand to make a hot pool (there is one area on the beach where there is still volcanic activity underneath which heats the water) so we spent the evening drinking wine under the stars in a homemade hot pool with our new kiwi bus mates. It was amazing! Day 3 we headed on to Waitomo to do black water rafting (and stopped and did a gorge walk on the way too). I hadn't actually realised it was black water rafting we were doing. And it was scarier than I'd expected. We climbed and floated through dark caves on rubber rings, seeing glow worms all over the ceiling which was pretty special. We also jumped down a couple of waterfalls backwards. Apparently there were eels, giant crickets and palm-sized spiders down there. Luckily, we did not see any of them!! In the evening we had a few drinks in the hostel bar. Hostel life isn't too bad you know. We've adjusted to shared dorms and are getting on with it ok. Today we're at Rotorura, the city with geothermal activity so walking/driving around you can see steam rising from the floor in random places. And guess where we stopped on the way here? HOBBITON!! The land of the hobbitses! It was awesome. We got to walk around and see all the hobbit holes and even had a drink in the Green Dragon Bar. Pictures will follow. Tonight we're off to a traditional Maori feast and show, where we'll get to see them perform their Maori dancing. It's hard to find the time to go on the Internet, as we don't have much free time but will update again when we can. Tomorrow we head on to Taupo, where Lowri has booked to do... A SKY DIVE!! I don't have the balls to do one yet. I'm hoping I find some before we leave NZ though (sorry mum). Lots of love to you all back home xxxx

Chris Blackler Uncle Dave and I LOVE the blogs and this NZ one is SO interesting - especially the hot water pool on the beach - magical. Rotorua has always been on our list to go to some time so we are really enjoying reading all your news. The Maori dancing will be fantastic - all sways and ti leaves with little balls on string that they swing into the air. Can't wait for the photos. Lots of love Auntie Chris and Uncle Dave. xx p.s. Greg will be beside himself with the spiders as big as palm leaves number.
reginafilange Hi everyone! Low here! Thanks for all the comments :) we are definitely making the most of it! Pat Ibbetson Sounds great Jess but I want my bestest niece all In one piece. Enjoy. Love A.Pat x
Dad Sounds fab, Jess. I think your hot pools beat our cold ones any day of the week. Glad to hear that you've not yet encountered any giant spiders or...drop bears. If they existed in Cardiff, they'd be cowering in their holes, for fear of getting washed away in the incessant monsoon. Hope there's plenty to fill that notebook up with!
