After our four nights in Queenstown we departed for the Deep South. We headed towards Dunedin, the university town. It's a shame we didn't have much time to look around this town, as it looked really cool. We did stop at the steepest road in the world though (but didn't attempt to climb it).
We arrived at our rooftop hostel and decided to take advantage of their BBQ facilities so me, Low, Ben, Bella & Rhea headed off to the supermarket to grab some grub and Ben took charge of cooking our awesome BBQ meal. We were quite exhausted after queenstown, so me, Lowri & Bella lounged around on the sofas and fell asleep in front of the tv. We're wild like that.
The next day we headed on to Invercargrill with several stops on the way. We walked up to this lighthouse where there was a seal colony we could see from a distance, then on to see sea lions on the beach at Cannibal Bay, then on to see penguins at another beach. We finished the day off with an ice cream stop where we saw dolphins in the sea!! How lucky were we?! What an awesome day.
That night we stayed in the hostel in Invercargrill and had another lazy evening playing cards with a glass of wine and then a movie!
The next morning we headed towards the Milford Sounds. We stopped at a chasm and waterfalls on the way, then arrived at the ferry dock about 1pm. We had a two hour cruise around the Milford Sounds. Words can't describe how beautiful this was, and after a rainy, cold morning, we were so lucky to have the sun shining and the clouds gone so we could see the views properly. Even photos don't do it justice (though I have posted some so you can see). It was incredible, and has been voted one of the top places to see in the world by national geographic.
We arrived back in queenstown about 7:30pm and got ready for our last night out with our lovely Canadian friend Rhea, who we hope to see again along our way back up north. We went to a bar called Searle Lane where they do $3 wines and beers after 9pm (that's £1.50 a glass!) then our favourite bar called Cowboys where we had another 2.5 litre cider (hey, it's more cost effective than a few smaller drinks!) we played some shuffle board too with some Kiwi guys.
On our way to Lake Tekapo now. Can't wait to show you pictures of this place (or you could always google it). It looks stunning!

Mum (Judy) I do hope there isn't a baby penguin secreted at the bottom of your rucksack. You are having experiences that most people will never be able to share. This really is a trip of a lifetime making memories that will live with you for the rest of your life. Enjoy!
