We got on the bus at 11.30am and made our way to Westport. The weather wasn't the best so once we got to our hostel, a cool 10 bed dorm with a nice lounge and kitchen, we decided to cook a delicious Mexican feast and watch a film. Fun night!
We set off for Franz Joseph in the morning with a stop at Cape Foulwind to see a Seal Colony - amazing, and a quick stop at the pancake rocks. Luckily we had two nights at Franz Joseph. Loved this place! Tiny town with a view of the snow capped mountains - perfect!
On our first night we caught up with some friends and had a few drinks. The next day I (Low) did the Ice Explorer. This was such a good day! We got a helicopter up to the Glacier, hiked around the glacier and inside ice caves for a few hours then a helicopter back - so surreal as the weather was so hot! Jess went kayaking for the morning with Ted to Lake Paringa. She kayaked through the rainforest and the huge lake at the bottom of the glacier mountains, saw some amazing scenery and loved it.
After a stressful (Ha Ha) day we headed over to the hot pools to relax before a few drinks - great day!
In the morning we set off for Wanaka. We stopped at Lake Matheson and spent an hour walking around to get some amazing pics of the mirror reflection of Mount Cook on the lake, beautiful. We got to Wanaka and went for a walk around before having drinks at the bar at the hostel, should have had a quiet night in hindsight as 4 nights in Queenstown was ahead!

Mum (Judy) I thought you were going to be roughing it in these back packers hostels. Your dorm sounds like home from home. It must be hard to decide what activities to choose. I would have loved kayaking and exploring ice caves. Sooo pleased to get the up dates. Thank you!
