Hello everyone from the north of England the area of Northumberland!! Although we are in England I haven't yet updated you with our journey through the French Riveria so I'm going to do so now and post a new entry about our van tour through the uk!!
Back on the 17th May - We boarded the high speed train in Paris bound for nice was a lovely long train ride with a 2 hr stop in Lyon!! Arrived in Nice at 10.30 at night and found our way to our hostel a little wary arriving so late as we were staying in our first dorm (only a 4 bedder - we have to start somewhere) was a great first night as there was an old man snoring his head off on the bunk below me which was vibrating up through my mattress!! You will be glad to know I got to sleep 3 hrs later only after wrapping a scarf around my head!!
The weather wasn't that nice in Nice!! Haha love saying that... It rained and rained and rained for 3 days straight... We did have some periods of clearness but not like the picturesque scenery and blue skies you see in the postcards - nonetheless we still had a great time and made the most of it when it wasn't raining. We visited Monaco on our second day staying in Nice which was great as we got to walk along the grand Prix track, along the straights and the pits. We also took a mini road train ride along different sections of the track including the really steep curvy parts (i loved that) so hard to imagine the drivers completing the circuit in just over a minute at any average speed of 100kms/ hr when you actually drive along the track yourself!!
The following day we visited Cannes and the film festival was on which meant people everywhere!! We fan watched outside the Martinez hotel and were lucky enough to see Alec Baldwin coming out of the hotel (at least we can say we saw someone famous - I even have photos to prove it) our vist at Cannes was short due to the wind and rain but we saw everything we came to see so were happy!!
After our 4 nights in nice we took another train to Marseille and met up with our friend Nick who is also backpacking around Europe - we had a bit more time to relax in Marseille as there wasn't as much to see which was a nice break!! We did visit a cathedral on top of a hill which gave us stunning views over the town which was lovely!! Our last day in Marseille was lovely - clear blue skies and hot and we spent it inside watching the origin online!! Not my wish of course but we made up for it by getting a ferry to a nearby island that afternoon and taking a dip in the mediterranean!!
Overall the tour of the French Riveria was lovely not the weather we were expecting but we got told by the locals that it never rains in nice so I guess we were just the unlucky ones!! However we got to see everything we came to see so were very happy with that :)
